Memory Test — Random Numbers

00:00:00.000

    Why train memory?

Memory is a muscle — train it, or lose it. Benefits:

    • Better academic performance
    • Reduces Alzheimer's risk (Mayo Clinic 2024)
    • Brain grows new neurons
    • Better working memory for multitasking

    How to test

    Beginner (remember 7 digits)

    1. Have a friend write 7 random digits: 4 7 2 9 3 8 1
    2. Look 10 seconds
    3. Start stopwatch
    4. Close eyes, recall mentally
    5. Write on paper
    6. Stop stopwatch when done

    Target times

    | Digits | Good time |
    |--------|-----------|
    | 7 | < 15 sec |
    | 10 | < 30 sec |
    | 15 | < 60 sec |
    | 20 | < 2 min |

Memory athletes can recall 500+ digits in 5 min (Alex Mullen, USA)

    Memory techniques

    1. Chunking

    47293-81 is easier than 4 7 2 9 3 8 1

    2. Story method

    Turn numbers into a story — 4=door, 7=hook, etc.

    3. Number-Shape system

    • 0 = egg, 1 = candle, 2 = swan
    • Picture each digit visually

    4. Major System (advanced)

Convert numbers to consonants, build words

    5 min/day practice

    • Week 1: 7 digits
    • Week 2: 10 digits
    • Week 4: 15 digits
    • 3 months: 30+ digits
